What are you having for dessert TODAY!!! YOGURT with blueberries (any fruit – apples), a handful of seeds or nuts, flax seeds, chia seeds. Whatever tickles your fancy.
Yogurt
I grew up on yogurt. The quality of your yogurt depends on the quality of your ingredients. This is such a good video I wanted to share it with you. NO SUGAR!!! ignore those recipes low sugar yogurt. BAH!!! You don’t even have to buy a yogurt maker. Notice when you have home made yogurt has a slight fermented acidic notes. Something like Kambucha. If you think it’s sour, you’ve been eating way too much sugar in your diet. I am at a point where ice cream is too sweet. I cant eat it. Take care of yourself for me! Please be good to yourself!
The next thing you want to know is ..What is the best yogurt?
HOME MADE YOGURT
NEXT BEST YOGURT: GI (Glucose Index) for GREEK YOGURT : 11. The GI for ice cream : 88!!! Replace your sour cream (GI 56) with Greek yogurt – for your baked potatoes-a side with any meal to add creaminess and balance to what you are eating. Instead of a dollop of ice cream or whip cream, use a dollop of yogurt? Note: GI under 55 is considered low.

GREEK style yogurt has the least amount of carbs.
DOCTORS AGREE
Full fat Greek yogurt is your #1 choice.
2% is the lowest percentage you want to buy.

Blame The Manufacturers Then .. Blame Yourself!
MANUFACTURERS know that people like sugar. No, people are obsessed with sugar. Sugar is a preservative and enhances flavours. What would you think if I told you 70% of the supermarket shelves would be empty if sugar products were removed.
PIONEERS did not know the price you pay for sugar. Today’s ULTRA “Processed Foods” have way too much sugar. A lot of sugar is found in processed foods not as a preservative but to eat freely. Read your labels. The first ingredient in most power bars is sugar. Sugar is found in abundance from white bread, whole wheat bread to milkshakes.

Sugar Is Legal

GLUTEN FREE chocolate brownies have listed sugar as the number one ingredient written on the side of the box.
Diabetes (type 2) was diagnosed for a 13 yrs old child! !Diabetes leads to heart disease… It all starts with sugar. Since sugar is legal, we can eat as much as we like. Don’t be porous and let this information go right through you. I hope you are mindful of the dangers from sugar.
GOOD Dessert CHOICES

Fruits are an excellent sources of minerals, vitamins and enzymes. They are easily digested and excise a cleansing effect on blood. Each and every fruit is enriched with their own kinds of nutrients. And, 70% dark chocolate is full of manganese!
Home Made Clafoutis (click for recipe)
Blueberries are at the top of the nutritional food chain. I have them around all the time. If it’s not fresh, it is frozen. But, always GOOD! If you have to have sugar, be sensible about it.

Great recipe for home made yogurt! You’ve got my vote!

Yes, you are right! I like the category “probiotic” added to yogurt in recent years. Makes it! Often I have it for breakfast. Never had chocolate cake for breakfast ..yet! Pizza yes. Somehow that gets into breakfast food group! 🙂

I’ve never attempted to make yogurt myself, but do eat plain Greek yogurt, for the protein. Good to know it’s lowest in carbs as well! I’ve always assumed low fat was better though, and use the 0% option. Why is full fat or 2% preferrable? Just wondering…
I’m trying to get healthier and lose weight, so am glad to have discovered your website! BTW, we are neighbours. I live in the GTA. Cheers! 👋

New research has proven that “FAT” is not bad for you. It’s the reverse. from the old American/ Canadian Food Guide. Eat cheese, full fat products for the health benefits. But, don’t overdo it. That is where sensible eating comes in. Get your nutrition. Don’t skimp on that. Avocado is a “fatty” food. Good fat. Keto diet promotes Fat/High protein diet. It is good. But, don’t stay on it for a long time. Migrate to the Mediterranean food selections. You don’t want to eat hard fat. A steak is marbled with fat. Meat lovers prefer Rib eye due to the uniform marbling. Dont be afraid of full fat yogurt. The tide has turned toward better health!

Good to know! I’m not much of a meat eater and don’t like avocados, but enjoy salmon, shrimp, etc. Never tried the Keto diet! My husband is Italian and we do prefer Mediterranean-style eating.

Yes , you get your proteins from fish, chicken, eggs, etc. I have discovered preferred cooking methods from a cardiologist. He has maintained poaching your foods to reduce the production of A.G.E. ( Advanced Glycation End Products [AGEs]) link->https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_glycation_end-product. I’m going to look into Sous Vide and poached. I will make Poached chicken marinated in vinegar and lemons. VIDEO about AGE:–>Dr. Pradip Jamnadas, MD–> https://youtu.be/rGD1BYD6N2Y?si=jeZNNmBPqb6tZbjx … He may have something there. ! It’s easy to make yogurt. Home made can be a bit more tangy. Sometimes it depends on familial habits. If your mother made it, you would be an easy candidate for it. It truly is so easy to do. Eat yogurt every day. It satiates when you are working on weight loss. As a well known probiotic, you also need its twin – a prebiotic. (Prebiotics are types of fiber that feed your friendly gut bacteria.). Garlic, onions, leeks, asparagus, bananas, barley, oats, cocoa, flaxseeds, Jicama root – is low in calories and high in fiber, including the prebiotic fiber inulin. When you have yogurt add cocoa powder, chopped banana with a sprinkle of flaxseeds. That’s what I had this morning! Jicama tastes like apples. Some prebiotic are hard to find like Jicama, burdock & yacon & konjak root.sweet potatoes (includes starch) acts as a prebiotic, add yogurt as a topper for a baked sweet potato and your are helping your gut bacteria. The road to good health and satisfying your hunger too. Good food promotes weight loss.

Too lazy to make my own yogurt, but I use the OIkos high protein brand, adding flax seeds, chia seeds, banana and berries. Never thought of cocoa powder or Jicama root. Thanks for the tips! 🙂

I buy the same yogurt -Oikos. It tastes the best here in Canada. Once I found it with 11% fat.. I bought it because I had to see what it tasted like. It was creamy. Too creamy for me! I wouldn’t buy it again. I like the 3-5% a bit. more tangy. Think about adding cinnamon. The best cinnamon is from Sri Lanka (formerly Cylon). A friend brought it back from Ceylon at the time. You’ll taste the difference. [Cinnamon is deemed as the highest antioxident spice (or herb)]

I have some organic Saigon cinnamon in the cupboard and usually add it to my Matcha green tea. Will look for the Sri Lanka brand. Yes, it would be a great addition to yogurt as well. Thanks again! 🙂

I don’t know if you know –>There are two kinds of cinnamon –> cassia and Ceylon — with cassia being the classic version that many grocery stores carry. Essentially, if it isn’t denoted as Ceylon cinnamon, it’s likely cassia. Not sure about your Saigon Cinnamon?

I didn’t know that and yes, Saigon is a cassia type of cinnamon. Found it originally at Costco. 🙂
“Saigon cinnamon is a species of cassia cinnamon with a stronger flavor and aroma than other varieties. Though it’s considered to be lower quality than Ceylon cinnamon, it’s less expensive and easily found in grocery stores.”

My husband and I try to eat healthy. I start most every day with a bowl of plain yogurt topped with fresh blueberries and a drizzle of honey. It is delicious and healthy. I end my day with one small square of dark chocolate.

I like your beginning to end day. I am a chocoholic and appreciate your chocolate finale as you end the day. Some countries have chocolate about 2 hours after dinner, especially celebratory dinners. A tradition I like to encourage! 🙂
